Luke 24:6-7: "He is not here; he has risen!"
As we turn our attention to Holy Week and Easter Sunday, I hope that you are observing it with your families and looking forward to a well-deserved break.
By now you are aware of two important announcements from our provincial government pertaining to teachers. The first being the budget unveiled in February that will impact our classrooms and practice. We are still awaiting final details and have asked senior administration to keep us updated.
The long-awaited new draft K-6 curriculum was released this week and our provincial association has asked for your input and expertise in completing the survey. https://surveys.teachers.ab.ca/s3/curriculumreview
Furthermore, our district has indicated that elementary teachers are free to choose if they want to be involved in piloting the new curriculum. As I have stated in the past, we have been assured that this is entirely on a volunteer basis and up to each individual teacher to decide for themselves.
The district wellness initiatives have been very well received by our members, based on the feedback that I have received. Therefore, I have formally requested from our Chief Superintendent to add a similar wellness day to this year’s calendar.
After a year of restrictions and pandemic fatigue, my hope is that we do not let our guard down until the vaccine reaches all of us. I will continue to advocate on your behalf at all levels of government to continue improving our teaching and classroom conditions. Please remember to take care of your mental health and enjoy the much-needed break.
Have a very Happy Easter Holiday and find joy in your days.
