what do we do?
ATA Local 55 represents more than 4000 full and part time teachers and has been in operation since 1938. The legal responsibility of the association is to advance the cause of education in the Province and to improve the teaching profession.

History and CharterCalgary Separate School Local 55, later known as Calgary Catholic Teachers ATA Local 55 was officially chartered on March 1st, 1938 by then General Secretary John W. Barnett. This Charter empowers the Association to “conduct business in accordance with its duly approved constitution and the said Act and Bylaws: and to enact bylaws for the government of the organization, subject to approval of the Executive Council of the Alberta Teachers’ Association” Further the Charter “entitles the said Local to all rights, privileges and benefits of a Local Association under the jurisdiction of the Alberta Teachers’ Association.” |
