“The Lord gives strength to his people” Psalm 29:11
Dear Colleagues, Thank you for your continued perseverance and work within your school communities. Last year, we were in the middle of the first COVID-19 lockdown and at the beginning of this pandemic. I don’t think that any of us imagined that we would be into our third wave and moving to online learning again! The good news is that you are now all eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccination, the not-so-good news because we have been asking for this measure since the beginning of the year. Only time will tell if the new measures announced by the provincial government will be enough to overcome the pandemic sooner than later. Our elementary teachers and administrators deserve a special thank you, and our gratitude for sustaining and continuing to take care of our youngest and vulnerable students. Without their efforts and fortitude, those at the frontlines taking care of society would not have been able to be at work with peace of mind. Grade 7-12 will continue with online learning except for some special education programs as mandated by the Ministry, for now. I will continue to advocate for those that are required to be at school and at possible risk. Please continue to monitor your physical and mental health, check in with your colleagues and support each other during these difficult times. As mentioned in my last newsletter, the board of trustees has approved June 28th as a health wellness day, as per my request on your behalf. This replaces the last day of classes for students. Remember to take a break and take time during the day, enjoy the spring weather and recharge your energy between lessons; call in a guest teacher if you are not well. Most importantly, stay safe. God bless! Mario Vergara President, Calgary Separate Local 55. |
